BREAKING: INEC Sends 74 Parties Parking, Fixes Dates For Ondo, Edo Guber Polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has deregistered 74 political parties.

Mahmood Yakubu, INEC chairman, announced this in a press conference in Abuja on Thursday.

He said this because of their failure to meet various criteria stipulated by the constitution during the elections.

The INEC chairman said the number of Nigeria’s political parties are now 18.

Yakubu also announced that the Edo governorship election will hold on September 19 while October 10 has been fixed for the of Ondo.

One Feared Dead As #EndSARS Protest Turns Violent In Surulere, Popular Nigerian Singer, Oxlade, Injured (Photos)

Protest against police brutality, extortion and extra-judicial killings turned violent in the Surulere area of Lagos State today.

It was gathered that police officers shot indiscriminately to disperse the protesters.

In the process, two of the protesters were reportedly hit by gunshots.

One of those hit by the gunshot has been reported dead.

The protesters had since shared pictures and videos of the victims on social media.

However, efforts to reach the Lagos Police Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, proved abortive.

He also did not respond to a text message forwarded to him by newsmen.

In the videos that surfaced online, the protesters were seen scampering to safety.

JUST IN: Four Dead As Three Storey Building Collapses In Lagos Island

Four yet-to-be-identified persons lost their lives today when a three-storey building collapsed in the Obalende area of Lagos Island, Lagos State.

It was gathered that eight other persons were injured.

The General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident.

He noted that the affected three-storey building located at 62, Odo Street, Obalende, Lagos Island, was under construction when it collapsed.

He said, “Upon arrival at the incident scene, a three-storey building under construction was discovered to have self-collapsed.

The cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained, but efforts are presently ongoing by LASEMA and other responders towards salvaging the situation.
